If you can find a way to talk about Malala Yousafzai with your students

do it.

This is a child who risks her life standing up for girls, for women, and for education.  She was gunned down because, among other things, she wants the right to go to school.

She is a compelling image of bravery, of the power of young people, of someone who so values their education and their rights that they are willing to die for it.

The article linked includes the documentary the New York Times filmed in 2009 about her experiences, embedded and I believe in full.
